Heavy Gravity Rose

Improvising on the subject of a simple rose, I wanted to use traditional techniques of oil paint on canvas, but portray this common flower in a new way. Instead of delicate, paper thin petals, I made them thick and weighty, even heavy. It's called "Heavy Gravity Rose" not so much referring to the earth's gravitational pull, but more as a nod to the gravity of life. I wanted to portray both a sense of life's beauty and it's melancholy in one image. This is a theme I constantly return to.
